Jason Lord
“In just under two weeks, I started to remember who I am--a being of breath and electricity--and I relaxed into receiving the work that was ready to arrive. No work was completed; no books were finished; no boxes were checked. Curiosities were stoked and nourished. I have had a marvelous, regenerative time both in the relative quiet of the studio and the communal meals and good conversation.”
Jason also posted this poem on Instagram during his time as a resident:
“spider on the ceiling,
katydids a-thrum;
mushroom in the tub,
let it come, let it come
elemental dreaming,
muddy puddles swell
up here in the moss–
where I’m casting a spell
casting me a spell of
soot and salt and blood;
weave a song of milkweed
and good Georgia mud
time stops, rain drops,
reel of breath and bone;
a box of vapor humming,
a cradleboard of stone
make a scratch, speak a word,
a summoning is done–
up here in the moss,
let it come, let it come
a good place with good people 🖤”
