Community Workshop: Poem Harvesting

  • The Hambidge Center 105 Hambidge Court Rabun Gap, GA, 30568 United States (map)

Saturday Afternoon Community Workshops are offered FREE to our Rabun County community.

There is a poem buried in you and ready to burst to life!

Poetry is alive and well in everyone, although it is often buried beneath layers of what other people call real life. In this workshop we will work together to dig up the topsoil of our daily lives to find the seed of a poem hunting for the light of day. This workshop will be interactive, will give opportunity for everyone to think and write during the session, and will be open to people of all skill level. We are all poets, and we will work together to bring the poem you didn't know you had to the surface.

All experience levels are welcome.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP LEADER

SAM RENKEN is a husband and father of three girls. He believes life is art. Sam serves as Market Leader for Consolidated Planning in Atlanta, a comprehensive financial planning firm. Sam’s first collection of poems, "Where to Start" won The Holland Prize at Logan House Press in 2010. His poems have appeared in Xavier Review, Main Street Rag, The Pinch, South Carolina Review, Portland Review, Plainsongs, Harpur Palate, Collective Exile and Carpe Articulum. His second collection, “First Pony Out,” was born thanks to a collaboration and generous grant from the Wyoming Arts Council. The poems bounce between present day characters at a residential treatment center for children and Pony Express riders given voice from the archived journals of Pony Express Station Logs. Sam is a Libra. Aiming to find perfect balance, he intends to work just as hard as he plays or play just as hard as he works every single day. Sam currently serves on the Hambidge Board.
