Hambidge Open House

  • The Hambidge Center 105 Hambidge Court Rabun Gap, GA, 30568 United States (map)

Hambidge will open its doors to the public (FREE with registration) on Saturday, November 4, from 1-4 PM to celebrate the opening of the Antinori Village, which will usher in new, expanded programming to complement Hambidge’s long-standing tradition of supporting selected artists-in-residence for 2-8 week stays on the 600-acre campus. November 4th visitors will have an exclusive tour of the new Antinori Village, may wander our usually private campus, and can engage in conversations with the current artists-in-residence about their work. The soundscape for the day will be set by local, and Grammy Award-winning musicians, including Kebbi Williams, Brandon Bush, Scott Low, and Sally Anne Morgan. An invitational gallery show will feature artwork and Hambidge branded items for purchase. Our Chef, Lori Speed, will be serving her famous chili from 1-2:30 PM, along with some sweet surprises and festive Fall beverages. The ever-popular U-do-Raku will offer the public a fun way to engage creatively with hands-on ceramic demonstrations.

The Antinori Village will enable a whole new level of programming for the community through public workshops, collaborative residencies, and leadership retreats. These structures were thoughtfully designed by the architecture firm BLDGS to create an inspired setting where small groups of creatives come together. The commons workshop and gathering space with full kitchen, dogtrots and separate cabins all weave together to celebrate the natural landscape and honor Hambidge’s historical buildings and creative legacy. The Village is strategically placed on the campus to operate separately from the residency program. Hambidge 2.0 represents the transformational upgrade of our mission to “Nurture Creativity” with greater impact in the community through intentional collaborative projects and workshops while also providing radical freedom to artists to explore their creative voice through our residency program (2-6 week stays). Programs in the Antinori Village will launch in 2024. Fifteen dynamic workshops will be offered annually representing pottery, music, writing, visual arts, dance, baking, sciences and more. The workshops will vary in price and length (weekend, week or two week long) based on the subject and presenter. Special Free workshops will be offered monthly to Rabun County Residents. For more info on workshops, please visit www.hambidge.org to sign-up for the newsletter and follow us on social media.

The Antinori Village, nestled among the changing colors of Fall, comprises four buildings all finished with dark, Shou Sugi Ban siding—a Japanese wood burning technique that treats wood with mineral oil, linseed oil, or other natural oils to seal by charring the wood to offer further protection. Three of the buildings will provide private accommodations with the fourth serving as a common gathering space with a full kitchen. The Antinori Village is strategically located on the Hambidge property next to the existing Antinori Pottery Studio with a separate driveway entrance. Each structure is thoughtfully designed by the award-winning architectural firm BLDGS to celebrate the landscape, referencing historical Hambidge buildings and providing unique comforts within nature.
