Mushroom ID Hike

Learn about some of the fascinating roles fungi play in the ecosystem before joining us on a guided hike led by Sam Landes and Cornelia Cho of the Mushroom Club of Georgia. After a short presentation, we will go off trail and collect specimens for identification and education. This event will include active hiking over uneven, possibly steep, terrain. The initial presentation will be indoors and will require wearing a mask. The outdoor hike will not be masked. Bring a basket for your specimens.

Also, dress in layers, wearing long pants, a long-sleeved shirt and closed-toe hiking shoes or boots. Bring water, any medicines you might require, including an Epi-pen if you have severe allergic reactions, and a walking stick or trekking pole, if needed.

Fee: $10 per person.

About Cornelia Cho & Sam Landes
Cornelia Cho, a pediatrician, has been the president of the Mushroom Club of Georgia (MCG) since 2010. Sam Landes, a retired Montessori pre-school teacher, has been the treasurer of MCG since 2010. They both give educational presentations about fungi around the country, and are active members in the North American Mycological Association.

The Mushroom Club of Georgia is an educational, scientific, outdoor oriented social club. They host Zoom meetings the first Wednesday of the month with speakers from all over the globe. During the season (mid-March - early December), they hold members-only walks every other weekend in parks and on private property all around the greater metro-Atlanta area. They also host cultivation workshops, arts workshops and culinary workshops. Joining is easy to do at gamushroomclub.org.
