4th Saturday Community Workshops are offered FREE to our Rabun County community.
“Functional” ceramics means more than coffee mugs and fruit bowls. In this workshop it means musical instruments!
Participants will have the opportunity to explore and decorate three different sound makers: an extruded flute, a percussive pinch pot, and a linked kinetic form.
Each technique and instrument offers the opportunity to be uniquely expressive with sculptural forms that create musical tones. Students will use simple tools and learn proper pottery techniques to ensure their work survives drying and firing. After constructing their instruments, participants will work with underglazes to add color.
Work will be fired to cone six and completed forms will be functional musical instruments with multiple tones. Instruments will be available for pickup approximately six to eight weeks after class.
All experience levels are welcome.
