Collecting Craft with Carr McCuiston

Collecting Craft is like collecting other forms of art, or building any kind of collection, so why Craft? Because craft objects are accessible and inventive, they create traditions and personal history, they are interactive and a daily source of beauty, and might even help us create a better society!

On February 26, 2022, Carr McCuiston of Signature joined us at the Hambidge Cross-Pollination Art Lab to share the joys of collecting craft. Watch her thoughtful presentation below, then scroll down and check out the extensive list of craft links and resources she generously provided.

Since 1997, Carr McCuiston has owned and operated Signature in Atlanta, Georgia, after working for many years in tutelage of founder Blanche Reeves. Carr completed her Bachelor Fine of Arts degree at Auburn University and then went on to study for a Master’s Degree in Art Education at Georgia State University.

Signature is a contemporary gallery recognized for exhibiting three-dimensional works in a wide variety of media. Our focus on the well-crafted object exemplifies the connection between the hand, the mind, and the heart of the individual maker. Combining thoughtful concepts, innovative design, and a passion for materials, our artists challenge and inform the importance of craft practice. A nationally respected institution for fifty-plus years, Signature strives to develop a broader awareness of handmade, one-off pieces, and to share our desire to enhance our lives with authentic and personal objects.
