75TH ANNIVERSARY

Birthdays come and go and it seems that Hambidge’s 50th Anniversary is the only one that has ever been properly celebrated. In 2009,  there will be 75 candles on the cake and it’s the perfect time to have another celebration. As the third oldest residency program in the country (only the MacDowell Colony and Yaddo are older) we’ve got something to crow about.

It’s also the perfect time to spotlight our Fellows and to thank the many devoted supporters we’ve had over the years. As we begin to plan a yearlong list of festivities you can count on the fact that all of these folks will be duly acknowledged and thanked. We would like to include everyone and reestablish lost friendships, but we need your help. If you, or anyone else you know, has not been receiving communications from us, please let us know by emailing or mailing to us, current addresses and contact information.

Birthdays are benchmarks, and this one marks an important time to stop and look at Mary and Jay Hambidge’s original dream of an Artist Retreat, to review the dream and to plan for the future. As we plan for 2009, we hope to have a series of concerts, readings and art exhibits as well as nationally important symposiums on Dynamic Symmetry and Art - Design and The Natural Environment. Our intention is to  promote our Fellows’ accomplishments and create more public awareness about Hambidge and the importance of our Residency Program.

We want to include or Fellows in the planning process, so if you’re interested in participating, please contact the office of the Residency Director at 706-746-1247 or email: residents@hambidge.org
